BA in English Literature is a trendy field of study which has a very intense 3-year course of study that encompassing various literary genres such as novels, drama, poetry, and prose, along with a comprehensive study of literary history. It also teaches you how to analyze different literature and understand its country of origin. It gives knowledge about summarizing the works of a writer and the art of interpreting poems. It also educates you about the shifts in writing patterns with time. It reflects light on establishing separate genres based on social movements like Realism or Existentialism. In our College Alagappa University, Karaikudi has granted affiliation to start the U.G Course in English Department during the academic year 2018 – 2019. In the beginning department has only 23 students. The department also encourages the students to take up significant amount of initiatives and motivate the activities throughout the course. Students can improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills in English. Not only does it enhance academic performance, but it also sharpens students’ minds. It broadens their appreciation of literature through intense reading and boosts efficiency. In a very short span of time the department has made its mark in the Centre of literary studies.
